The School Climate Conference is proud to work with so many experienced trainers, researchers and practitioners to facilitate the School Climate Conference training.  Our training partners are a diverse cross section of experienced educators, law enforcement officials, after school program specialist, tribal youth program developers and school district administrators.

Strategies to Build, Measure, and Plan for School Climate and Student Engagement

This training will go beyond building capacity, as it will equip school site staff with practical tools to develop consistent plans that assess, address and manage School Climate and Student Engagement.  Participants will learn proven strategies that align with the LCAP priorities that require schools to implement and measure activities that increase student engagement and build a positive school climate for all students. Participants will learn (YPAR) Youth-Led Participatory Action Research strategies that seek to engage youth leaders in the process of data collection and action planning.  This training is a must for LCAP committees and PBIS/MTSS Teams!

Training Topics Include:

  • Target core campus issues impacting School Climate, using data to track and monitor progress
  • Trend local behavior utilizing the Direction Survey and Resource Database
  • Develop accountability plans that seek to build measurable student engagement and a positive school climate
  • Develop a calendar of activities that engage students, staff and parents in meaningful participation and measure how activity implementation impacts school climate.

4 MINDFUL WAYS TO SHIFT THE CLIMATE OF YOUR CLASSROOM

According to a study conducted by Cleary and Zimmerman (2004), the most critical time to help youth learn about self- reflection, self-awareness, self-care and balance is between the ages of 11-18.  In this training we will explore and share resources and tips on how to work with students on their personal behavior and accountability, self-regulation self-awareness, decision making skills and other social -emotional learning skills.

  • Introduction to mindfulness and how it’s a perfect match for social emotional learning- we will use the CASEL standards as a tool for alignment.
  • How to use student driven activities to increase their self-awareness, decision -making, self-regulation, relationship and social skills.
  • How to lessen students’ anxiety and aggressive behavior and increase their vocabulary for emotions.
  • How to connect service learning to mindfulness activities to create practical application opportunities for students thereby helping them develop 21st century skills, empowering them and preparing them to become the next generation of mindful leaders.

PLUS Program Development Training

The PLUS Program training focuses on how to build a researched based peer-to-peer program that focuses on universal interventions on a campus. Participants will learn how to:

  • Develop a peer-to-peer program to increase student engagement and peer connections.
  • Align Program Development with district accountability plans Learn how to use a set of activities and data gathering tools to find Qualitative and Quantitative data to drive decision making process

TRAINING FOR FACILITATING GRIEF GROUPS WITH K - 12 YOUTH

Did You Know ?

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that 1 in 10 children will experience the death of a parent by the age of 18. You can facili- tate small group sessions with youth who have experienced losing a loved one.

Learn the impact of loss on children. We will cover how the loss affects various ages differently and what the typical stages of grief are. Schools and youth - serving organizations need to be able to offer support and feel prepared when dealing with grief issues.
